Overview

On this tour we have combined wildlife and reasonable comfort. You will discover the world of beautiful lakes and ancient mountains with its unique landscapes and bright colors of sub alpine meadows. The route: Gorno-Altaisk – Chibit – Chulyshman Valley – Artybash – Chemal – Gorno-Altaisk.

Itinerary

Day 1. Gorno-Altaisk – Chibit
Meeting with the guides at the Gorno-Altaysk airport at 10.00. Moving to the village Chibit. On the way we will visit the Karakol natural park «Uch Enmek». You’ll get acquainted with the traditional dwelling of the Altai people — Ail.

You’ll get acquainted with the traditional dwelling of the Altai people — Ail. During the excursion, you will get acquainted with various types of traditional housing of the indigenous people of Altai, as well as its internal material and spiritual components. Then we will see the largest collection of petroglyphs in Kalbak-Tash. The entire life of ancient people is shown on the rocks. The age of petroglyphs is 1000-5000 years. We will also make a stop at the confluence of the Chuya and Katun rivers. Arrival at hotel. Accommodation. Dinner. Distance of the day route: 325 km by vehicle. (D)

Day 2. Chibit – Mars - Chibit
Moving to Altai Mars which is a real miracle of nature. Unreal landscapes and color. The high content of mercury in the rock gives a reddish tint. On the way we visit the Geyser Lake — the «earthly eye» of amazing turquoise color. «Geysers» come to life, throwing a mixture of bluish clay and sand onto the surface, which form visible circles at the bottom of the lake. Return to Chibit. Overnight at hotel. Distance of the day route: 200 km by vehicle, 4 km on foot. (B).
Day 3. Chibit - Aktash repeater - Chibit
Today we are going to experience a real off-road adventure. Ascent by jeep to an altitude of more than 3000 meters above sea level. From the top you will enjoy stunning views of the snow-covered Severo-Chuisky ridge and Kuraiskaya steppe. Return to Chibit. Overnight at hotel. Distance of the day route: 50 km by vehicle. (B)
Day 4. Chulyshman
Today we will go to the Stone Mushrooms. The road passes through the Katu-Yaryk pass — one of the most technically difficult passes in the Altai Mountains, and one of the most beautiful. You will see the incredibly beautiful valley of the Chulyshman River. After lunch, we will take a walk to the stone mushrooms — natural rock formations in the Chulyshman valley. Overnight at wooden houses. Distance of the day route: 240 km by vehicle, 3 km on foot. (B).
Day 5. Uchar waterfalls
Today we’ll visit the largest cascade waterfall in Altai Mountains, Uchkar. It is one of the most amazing sights of the Altai Reserve. The drop height is about 160 meters. Taiga landscapes, swift rivers Chulyshman and Chulcha, crystal clear mountain air await us. Overnight at wooden houses. Distance of the day route: 20 km on foot. (B).
Day 6. Stone Mushrooms – Teletskoye Lake - Artybash
Today we will get to know Lake Teletskoye. This is one of the largest reservoirs in Southern Siberia. More than seventy large and small rivers flow into the lake. We will take a ferry ride together with cars from the south to the north of the Blessed Lake. Overnight at a tourist center in the village Artybash at a hotel. Distance of the day route: 50 km by vehicle, 70 km by ferry. (B)
Day 7. Artybash – Chemal
After breakfast we move to the village Chemal. On the way, we will visit the National Museum of the Altai Republic named after I. A. V. Anokhina. The museum is the oldest cultural institution of the Altai Republic. The museum displays collections on the ethnography of the Altaians and the Russian Old Believer population.

We will visit the Chemal hydroelectric station. We will walk along the picturesque «Goat Trail» along the steep rocky bank of the Katun, on the way, having examined the place where the Chemal River flows into the Katun. Then we will go to Patmos Island, which is located in the middle of the Katun River. It is connected to the mainland by a suspension pedestrian bridge. On the island there is a nunnery and the Church of St. John the Divine. Accommodation at a hotel. Distance of the day route: 580 km by vehicle. (B)
