Overview

We invite you to visit magnificent sample of medieval architecture of Central Asia – Barak-Khan Madrasah (XVI c.). Architectural ensemble of the Barak-Khan Madrasah was formed in different times during the XVI c.. The complex consists of the mausoleum and khanqah (building for gatherings of Sufi brotherhood). The mausoleum was built first. It is located in the eastern part of complex. Then two-domed khanqah was built (1530). In the middle of the XVI c. the complex was rebuilt for the madrasah named after khan of Bukhara of that time Navruz Ahmed Khan nicknamed Barak-Khan. The decoration of the Barak Khan Madrasah portal is not typical for Tashkent. Its vault is designed as a niche (kolab-kori); tympanums and props are decorated with carved bricks and various mosaics.
