Overview

We invite you to the North Caucasus, one of the South regions of Russia. The Great Silk Road passed through this area populated with more than 80 peoples. Mountain areas of the North Caucasus were conquered by the Russian Empire as the result of very long Caucasian War with local mountain peoples (1817-1864). The North Caucasus Black Sea shore was included to Russia after Russo-Turkish War of 1827-1829. After the Revolution and Civil War in Russia several national Autonomic Soviet Republics and Autonomic Regions were arranged by Bolsheviks in the North Caucasus. During your tour you will visit two such regions (Karachay-Cherkessia and Kabardino-Balkar Republics) and will be acquainted with  interesting history and original culture of local peoples.

Itinerary

Day 1. Mineralnye Vody - Kislovodsk
Arrival in Mineralnye Vody by train or by plane. Meeting with our representative at the railway station or at the airport. Transfer to Kislovodsk.

Kislovodsk city park walking tour. It has the second largest park territory in Europe (950 hectares) and over 250 species of trees. In different times park was visited by many figures of Russian culture: Mikhail Lermontov, Sergei Yesenin, Alexander Pushkin, Leo Tolstoy, Anton Chekhov, Alexander Solzhenitsyn, Feodor Chaliapin, Anna Pavlova. We will take our time to fully enjoy the beauty of these places. You will be offered three types of Kislovodsk Narzan water in the Main Narzan Gallery, and we will finish our tour at the Main Narzan Baths. Dinner. (LD)

Day 2. Pyatigorsk
Breakfast. Pyatigorsk city tour. Pyatigorsk is the oldest city of Caucasus Mineral Waters (1780).  Resort was arranged there in 1803 in accordance with the order of emperor Alexander I.

You will stroll down the magnificent park Tsvetnik (Flower Garden), enjoy the view from Aeolus’s Harp Pavilion and see the famous cave Lake Proval. Pyatigorsk saw many historical events and famous people like Leo Tolstoy, Alexander Pushkin, Mikhail Lermontov. If weather is favorable you can ascent by cable way to the Mashuk Peak and to see unforgettable Pyatigorsk city and the Caucasian Range view. Lunch. Museum of Local Lore tour. Then you will visit places connecting with great Russian poet Mikhail Lermontov, who lived here, wrote about this region and died on the duel not far from the Mashuk Mountain (1841). Return to Kislovodsk. Dinner. Overnight.

Day 3. Medovye waterfalls
Breakfast. Alikanovsk Gorge tour. You will admire mountain landscape and take a look at “real Caucasus” in small scale.

The guide will take you to Karachay-Cherkessia autonomic republic where the Medovye (The Honey) waterfalls are located.  Along the way you can stop at natural monument – Koltso (The Ring) Mountain. Nevertheless the main object to visit is Medovye waterfalls, where from the viewpoint you can enjoy the mountain landscape and 5 waterfalls of different height, alpine meadows and rocks covered with net of narrow gorges. Along with that our guide will take you to another natural monument – Rim (Rome) Mountain and will tell you about ancient Alan settlement (6th-14th century) that once stood at its foot. After the trip to Medovye falls you will have time to rest and enjoy the view, taste national cuisine. Local chefs will treat you to the best hychin and kebab. You can visit local museum “Karachai yard” and small village house with a cattle. In the end of this program you will see a performance of dancers and musicians and even will have a chance to learn some moves (at extra charge). En route you will visit a Tea House, taste herbal tea and homemade jam, which are of great variety here.  Lunch with Karachay national cuisine dishes. Transfer to the Elbrus Mountain area (territory of Kabardino-Balkar Republic). Accommodation at the Ozon 7 Peaks *** hotel. Dinner. (BLD)

Day 4. Southern Prielbrusie
After breakfast you will embark on a tour to the Southern Prielbrusie enjoying the spectacular views en-route. Snowy humps of Mount Elbrus fascinate and attract with its inaccessibility.

Elbrus, dormant volcano, is the highest point of Russia and Europe. During the tour the guide will tell you interesting facts about the conquest of Mount Elbrus, local people, customs, traditions, resources in the land of the Central Caucasus, cable way will take you up to an altitude of 3500m, and you will be able to enjoy the marvelous views of the mountains and meeting with majestic Elbrus. Note: Ascent is dangerous for clients with cardiovascular disease, hypertension. Return to the hotel. Lunch of national  Balkar cuisine with folk Balkar dances. Narzan Meadow and the Baksan River bank walking tour. You will visit one of the most picturesque places of the North Caucasus region are and taste 3 different kinds of Narzan mineral water. Day 5. Adyr-su Gorge and Chegem Waterfall
Breakfast. Free time. Optionally ascent to the Cheget Mountain with the best Caucasian Range view or the Terskol Gorge walking tour is offered.

You will be acquainted with historic part of city walking along Primorskaya Embankment promenade from Archangel Michael Church till Winter Theater. From the Romanesque tower built in 1936 at the Mount Akhun you will see panorama of Sochi city. Then you will visit Matsesta, the largest in Russia medical spa complex established in 1902, and Stalin’s Dacha Museum located in picturesque subtropic park. After lunch of Caucasian meals you will visit Sochi Arboretum, an unique collection of subtropical flora and fauna and the Riviera resort park. Return to the hotel. Dinner. (BLD)

Breakfast. The Olympic Sochi sightseeing tour. Transfer to the Krasnaya Polyana mountain skiing center where mountain cluster of XXII Olympic and XI Paralympic Winter Games was located and  where competitions in all kinds of the Olympic program at the snow, and snow and ice routes were held.

The main Olympic Stadium where Games’ ceremonies were held and the venues for indoor sports (hockey, figure skating, curling, and speed skating) competitions were arranged and also training facilities, the Olympic Village, the international broadcasting center and other amenities are situated there.  Return to the hotel.
