Itinerary

Day 1. Welcome to Karelia
08:33 Meeting with local guide near Petrozavodsk Railway Station building (under spire from platform side) on train from Moscow arrival. Breakfast at cafe. Transfer to the place of dog sledding start (90 km).

On the way visit to the natural reserve “Kivach” where you will see the Kivach plain waterfall and plants typical for Karelia, e.g. Karelian birch. Arrival at the starting point of dog sledding. Meeting with the dog-driver instructor. Instruction. Selection of equipment. Riding a sledge pulled by husky dogs (10 km). The main part of the route passes through the picturesque forest. Middle complexity route has ups and downs, sharp turns. Lunch on the end of the route. Photos of dogs as a souvenir. 2-3 km walking using snowshoes. Transfer to the Shishki tourist center located on the bank of Sundozero Lake (85 km from Petrozavodsk). Accommodation. Dinner at cafe. (BLD)

Day 2. Snowmobiling (60 km)
Breakfast. Selection of equipment. Instruction for snowmobiling and safety. Training sessions. Riding snowmobile route along a forest track where you can see trails of wild animals. The route goes then on the frozen Sandal Lake.

The route goes then on the frozen Sandal Lake. On Lychny island you will see one of the most ancient churches in Karelia, St Peter and Paul church. Then route goes to the White Mount, the place where marble was extracted used for buildings in St Petersburg. Here you can also see a marble church. Lunch at a café. Transfer back to the tourist center. On the way you will visit old abandoned Karelian villages Oyazha and Yershi. Arrival at the tourist center. Dinner. Russian traditional steam bath house for additional payment on spot is recommended. (BLD)

Breakfast. Today we are going on snowmobiles to the ancient volcano Girvas. Visit to a trout farm located on the river that doesn’t froze in winter.

Moving to a former landing field called Poor Porog where some scenes from the popular in USSR film about the Great Patriotic War “The Dawns Here Are Quiet” were filmed. Lunch as a picknick. Return to the tourist base. Transfer by bus to Petrozavodsk. Dinner at a restaurant in Petrozavodsk. Departure by evening trains. (BLD)

Accommodation

Tourist center “Shishki”, TWN/DBL Room:
A separate entrance from the street, its own porch, a vestibule for outerwear and outdoor shoes, an entrance hall, a bathroom equipped with a shower cabin and heated floors, a spacious living room, a kitchenette and a loft bedroom. The living room is equipped with an LCD TV, DVD-player, coffee table and sofa, which can comfortably be used as additional seating for two more people. The living room window offers a panoramic view of Lake Sundozero. The in-room kitchenette is equipped with a fridge-freezer, microwave, electric kettle and a four-seater dining table.

Safety

Only persons over 18 are allowed to drive the snowmobile.
Before starting the route, the instructor will teach each participant how to operate the snowmobile.
You have to comply to all the safety instructions given by our instructors.
Drunk people are not allowed to drive the snowmobile.
The instructor has the right to exclude the tourist from the route at any time in the event of violation of safety rules.

Recommended to bring with:

Backpack or travel bag; comfortable hiking clothes: pants, a warm sweater, 2 pairs of wool socks, 2-3 pairs of simple socks, t-shirts, warm jacket, woolen hat, gloves, warm shoes, bath house accessories.
