Overview

We invite you to Karelia, a picturesque region of Russian North. You will get acquainted with Petyrozavodsk city founded in 1703 by tsar Peter I when cannon-moulding plant was built on the shore of the Onego Lake, you will visit world famous Kizhi open-air museum of wooden architecture included into UNESCO World Heritage list.

Itinerary

Day 1. Petrozavodsk - Kizhi
07:00 Arrival in Petrozavodsk by train from St. Petersburg. Meeting with the guide at the railway station. 07:20 Breakfast at city cafe. 08:20 City tour of Petrozavodsk.

You will get acquainted with the history of the capital of Karelia and visit its major places of interest: Onego Lake embankment with an open air museum of contemporary European art, architectural complex of the Kruglaya (the Ring) Square with regional administration buildings of the XVIII c., the monument to Peter the Great. 11:30 Departure for Kizhi Island by hydrofoil.12:45 Upon arrival transfer to the guest house Kizhskaya Blagodat by motor boat (10 minutes). Kizhskaya Blagodat is a cozy family run gues thouse situated on the mainland right opposite Kizhi Island. The owner of the guest house is the son of the head carpenter, who restored the church of the Transfiguration in the Soviet time. You will be pleasantly surprised with the tranquility of the place as well as with the hospitality of its hosts. Accommodation in twin rooms (WC and shower in every room). 14:00 Welcome lunch. 15:00 Excursion by motor boat to the ancient wooden chapels around Kizhi Island which form the famous Kizhi Necklace. 19:00 Dinner.
