Overview

We invite you to the State Museum of History of Uzbekistan founded in 1876 by Russian scientists as the National Museum of Turkestan. The museum exhibition includes items representing the historical development of the peoples inhabiting Central Asia in the past from the Stone Age and the time of the first state formations on the territory of modern Uzbekistan to the present day. Now the Museum of History of Uzbekistan is located at splendid palace built in Soviet period for the Lenin Museum (1970).

Itinerary

Rich collection of the State Museum of History of Uzbekistan (more than 250,000 items) represents archaeology, numismatics, ethnography, miscellaneous artifacts, archival documents of modern and recent history and a scientific library with publications from the XIX and XX cc. as well as earlier books and manuscripts. Among the exhibits of the museum you can see such rare items as the Saka large bronze cauldron decorated with statuettes of animals (IV — V c. BC) and the Buddha statue of the I c. BC found by archaeologists during excavations on the territory of Uzbekistan. The museum exhibits related to the Timurid era (end of XIV — XV cc.) completely present you the flowering of medieval civilization of the peoples living in this region, their achievements in science and poetry, in art, portrait miniatures, architecture and various crafts.
